There are four transport modes in OpenTTD: Rail, Road, Sea and Air. Each has it's own construction method.
Railway Construction - Build train stations, connecting railway track, and signals for trains.
Road Construction - Build either bus stations and truck stations, and connect them with roads for buses and trucks.
Dock Construction - Build docks, bouys, canals for ships to follow.
Airport Construction - Build airports and direct planes between them.
