Better category for this page?
It seems this page is quite poor at current state so I am suggesting that we remove list, and create categories something like this:
- Configurations & Settings
- adv. settings
- ... (and so on)
Subcategories misc, music, etc... would contain all the correct pages of variables. Openttd.cfg page would contain to link category listing and general info about openttd.cfg itself. Maybe list of variable pages that still missing from ottdwiki would be nice. Comments/objections anyone? -Priski 06:26, 23 July 2007 (CEST)
Why there has to be a milion of stub articles about the options, containing one or two sentences? Going through all of those links in order to find the description of the option you actually want to find is REALLY incovenient. Wouldn't it be better if there would be one big article about the config.cfg? Or what about splitting it in a few sections, for example one article for [misc] options and one for [gfx]?
- I would support this, i think the separate articles for [gfx], etc would be best LordAro 10:53, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
- +1 from me. On the other hand most things in the config file can be changed within the game itself via the settings/advanced settings gui. Settings that cannot be changed from within the game are normally not "designed" to be changed by the normal player unless you really know what you are doing (path finder settings for instance). So I'm not sure if it is really worth the effort. But a redesign would still make the page better accessible and easier to use. Maybe a template for config setting should be created which can be included for each setting on the page (the way we did with the scenario pages) and only have subpages for the different config sections like already suggested... - I agree. A few pages which separate the sections might be much better. one way to define the sections could be to follow the ingame sectioning of the settings tree. And another for the cfg-only settings. But there might even be better distinctions. Please proceed :-)--planetmaker (talk) 22:50, 20 July 2012 (CEST)
