[edit] PBS discussion in the wiki?
It this the right place for the PBS discussions? I think we should do this in the tt forums.
- More users could see the discussion and take part in it
- More users see the pbs topic and more users might use michi_cc's patch
- The forum's structure is better than the wiki's (for discussuions). The discussion in the is quite hard to read.
I suggest creating one thread per problem and discuss it in the forum. Although DaleStun told several suers several times that the forum is for openttd and not for crappy evil hacks. --Zypa 22:26, 24 May 2008 (CEST)
I think it would be best that on this page, only the YAPP article itself should be discussed, not YAPP in general, as the forum is a better place for that. The best place for discussion of YAPP problems would be the "General Discussion" forum of OpenTTD, however YAPP specific threads should be marked as such, by prefixing the thread's subject with "YAPP: ". For example, a YAPP thread could have the following subject: "YAPP: Need help with station layout". --Tekky 22:59, 24 May 2008 (CEST)
- DaleStan only told you, that the "General" forum isn't the right place, but why not using the "Development" forum to do it? You are confusing "newbies" with YAPP threads. And last but not least, YAPP can't be a general OpenTTD topic, because it isn't in the official OTTD builds. ;-) --Ammler 10:52, 25 May 2008 (CEST)
- I don't think that the Development forum is appropriate for threads unrelated to the development of YAPP. --Tekky 15:26, 25 May 2008 (CEST)
- General forum says "OpenTTD is a fully open-sourced reimplementation of TTD, written in C++, boasting improved gameplay and many new features." while Development forum wants discussions regarding development. I think the use of new features should be discussed in General forums. Tautrimas 15:41, 25 May 2008 (CEST)
Now that YAPP is in the official nightly builds, YAPP signals should be discussed in the official forums. The discussion here should be restricted to the YAPP article itself. --Tekky 11:52, 14 August 2008 (CEST)
[edit] Unsafe waiting
I managed to solve the gap-after-junction problem like this:
This way, trains will enter junction at the moment it is really free and don't enter too early also. Are there any flaws in this solution? Tautrimas 19:35, 24 May 2008 (CEST)
- Why the signals in the opposite direction, they have absolutely no function, you can just remove them. Michi_cc 19:45, 24 May 2008 (CEST)
- This is the point. Train won't come into junction and won't block it. See The Signals section. Tautrimas 19:50, 24 May 2008 (CEST)
- Just remove'em, and the resulting behaviour will (should) be the same. Mchl 20:08, 24 May 2008 (CEST)
[edit] Problems with Basic two-way double track layout
This discussion has been moved to Talk:YAPP track layouts (advanced), as bi-directional double track no longer is in the main article.
[edit] Name of signals
The in-game texts of YAPP all use the term advanced and one-way advanced signals. It might be better to use the same terminology on the wiki page. I decided against calling them PBS signals to make it clear that they don't work exactly like the PBS signals from TTDPatch so players used to TTDPatch PBS are not confused. --Michi_cc 21:59, 24 May 2008 (CEST)
I'm not sure if the name "advanced signal" is appropriate because it does not describe in what way it is advanced. The name "PBS signal" is much more descriptive. Therefore, I consider it more appropriate to use that name. --Tekky 22:26, 24 May 2008 (CEST)
- Whatever name you settle on, I think it should be the same in game, as well as in documentation (wiki included). Mchl 01:03, 25 May 2008 (CEST)
Please note that YAPP PBS signals have now been officially renamed to "path signals" and the old standard signals have been renamed to "block signals". Someone has already changed the contents of the YAPP article appropriately. --Tekky 22:16, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] How they work!
The current description of path based signals (only place them where trains can safely wait) is not a description of how the signal works. It is instead advice on how to use them. I cannot find, anywhere in the wiki, a complete description of how they work (when paths are reserved and unreserved (partly or fully), when trains enter, what colours will be shown on the signals and when) unfiltered from advice on their use. That information should be on this page.
