Congratulations with your 17th birthday! (a bit late, maybe... ;-))

Thank you :) In fact I'm still 16, but 2006-1989=17 :P MeusH

This amount of vandalism is getting quite high, is there anything to stop it? It seems to be mostly linkspam. Bruce98 15:54, 23 Feb 2006 (CET)

It is horrible, indeed. I'm requesting the anti-spam scripts but all we have left is to wait for the server owner to install the scripts. MeusH 22:15, 24 Feb 2006 (CET)

New Tatics

link If you look here, it seems as if they now spam it, then say that it is reverted, but they don't really. Also I noticed that there was a lot more spam activity in the last 2 days or so. The sooner the scripts are in place, the better. My method of getting rid of spam is search for "viagra" in the search box and then revert them. Are the scripts a bit like the ones on wikimedia commons? - see here - Bruce98 15:07, 12 Mar 2006 (CET)

Re: New Tatics

You'll see it tommorow, 14th March 2006. Miham is about to install automated scripts rather than tell me to use search function

New New Tactics

How are all of these spamlinks getting through, I thought there was a ban on certain words. The new tactic is to say that they have to feed their children, what rubbish! Bruce98 14:53, 20 April 2006 (CEST)

A bit tiring doing all that reverting, I won't bother next time. Bruce98 21:15, 20 April 2006 (CEST)

Better spam plan

Wikimedia Commons have a good way of stopping spam. They had an extention which if an external link is added when a user is not logged in, it puts an image with a word in it, which the user has to input into the box. This makes automated spamming very difficult. This should be coupled with this extention, which makes automated registering impossible. I am not sure where these extentions are unfortunatly, but the version page must name them. How easy would it be to install these? Bruce98 15:23, 5 May 2006 (CEST)

That's just what I was looking for - it would have been added before only if I submit the protection script download page. Now I'll just ask here and there and try to obtain the link. Thanks! --MeusH 15:43, 5 May 2006 (CEST)

We should start blocking the IP addresses themselves. Mackensen 14:53, 10 May 2006 (CEST)

It would take ages that way, and the spammers would just use a different IP address. The best way is to get these extentions and block non-logged-in editing. Bruce98 15:58, 10 May 2006 (CEST)
Not necessarily. Spammers attack from open proxies and compromised machines (zombies). Quick response on our part can slow them down. Moreover, turning off non-logged-in editing will just force them to register. I've seen it happen on other wikis. Better to let them come in with the IP address visible and easy to block. Mackensen (talk) 16:01, 10 May 2006 (CEST)
But then you could put the registration image thing in to stop automated registering. Your method is fine for the moment, as installing extensions appears to be difficult. Bruce98 20:00, 10 May 2006 (CEST)
Your method is good, but there is also method, which is both automated and better. Better, because there is no spam post. Automated, because we (humans) do nothing. If we block non registered users from posting, spambots will have to register. So we can put unbreakable spamblock on registration page they can't pass. This way, spambots will reach registration process and fail. --MeusH 20:49, 10 May 2006 (CEST)
That's what I meant. Bruce98 21:16, 10 May 2006 (CEST)
Well, my only question (as a sysadmin): What should I install in order to achieve that users who are willing to register have to type in a captcha? I can't find the extension which does it. At least, not at here. --Miham 21:23, 10 May 2006 (CEST)

The thing is that every page is spammed using a different IP address. Bruce98 14:34, 17 May 2006 (CEST)

Something needs to be done soon, or this entire thing will be full of rubbish. Bruce98 14:46, 17 May 2006 (CEST)

I have asked about these extentions on Wikimedia Commons. Bruce98 14:52, 20 May 2006 (CEST)

I have the answer to our problems, it is here - . It may be a difficult to use it though.

Currently I'm trying to get this stuff work. I'll report about the progress...
Update: Wikimedia under OpenTTD wiki has been upgraded to the latest version in 1.6 trunk (1.6.6). ConfirmEdit seems to be working by now. If you have any more suggestion, please contact me. Miham 21:54, 28 May 2006 (CEST)
Very good work! It seems to work then. Bruce98 16:57, 29 May 2006 (CEST)

Latest spamming

The latest onslaught has lasted for ages. I find that blanking their edits stops them. Bruce98 14:39, 20 May 2006 (CEST)

It's fine now after these extentions. Bruce98 20:00, 31 May 2006 (CEST)

If you would have redirected hotkey to hotkeys, i'd already would have found it....

so do a bunch of people on the forum

--RRuffneck 19:30, 31 May 2006 (CEST)

Umm what? Try to write it in a conditional you know, or don't use a conditional as I don't get it. --MeusH 20:37, 31 May 2006 (CEST)

i'm not english, and i'm not from the far-away island of Wiki.

so just correct me normaly please

I already told you some time ago, that i'm here to make a complete wiki, not always in 'wiki-style' (i simple don't get it).

i searched for 'hotkey' before creating the page Shortcut_keys.

nothing was found

so i created 'my' page: Shortcut_keys (did you read the 'discussion' there?)

than you get angry at me for creating 'way too much pages like that'. And that i should merge it all.

at that time only i found the page Hotkeys.

do what you want with it, that's your right. And the whole meaning of wiki is, that you can correct me.

please do --RRuffneck 22:51, 31 May 2006 (CEST)

I don't get angry at you, don't write like that (unless you want me to get angry at you).
Conditionals are generally conditionals with "If". But nevermind the grammar.
I just suggest to merge (combine) these three pages into one (or two) not to cause confusion.

Also consider there is a new hotkey added. Currently, more pages would require editing.
With proper merging and redirecting, one page would do the trick

--MeusH 20:12, 2 June 2006 (CEST)

Spamming (again)

We have been getting spammed again. This time it is random numbers being inserted into articles randomly. The culprit is an anonymous user, and uses a different IP address each time. The only way I can think of stopping this is to ban non-registered users from editing. Bruce98 13:41, 10 July 2006 (CEST)

Also, I noticed this -, it is an advert for drugs, not sure how it got through the CAPTCHA, unless the culprit is a human. Bruce98 13:50, 10 July 2006 (CEST)

Re: Spamming (again)

I thought about banning IPs from editing, but I see many people IP-editing the wiki. And most of these are important people, like developers. They may not like it but well, if we get really spammed, we will have to stop the IPs --MeusH 01:01, 15 July 2006 (CEST)

If people want to contribute to the wiki, they should register. This has the added bonus of seeing who comments on talk pages. Bruce98 14:40, 15 July 2006 (CEST) has been attacking the wiki, replacing all the content of many pages with the word "RAPE" over and over again. Will I send the culpret to get psychiatric help? Prehaps this user should be banned to stop this spreading. -- Bruce98 22:21, 1 September 2006 (CEST) has been elliminated

yeah --MeusH 22:42, 1 September 2006 (CEST)

Thanks for a quick response. Bruce98 22:52, 1 September 2006 (CEST)
Wow. Somebody really doesn't like OpenTTD. Born Acorn 10:24, 2 September 2006 (CEST)
Guys, I fucking love OpenTTD... and I like this wiki. I couldn't help myself: I see a wiki and I feel the urge to vandalise it. That's all it is; blame wikipedia for any destructiveness, not me. I will try to do better in future. DickHead 03:36, 5 September 2006 (CEST)
I don't care how much you are "sorry", you still spammed the wiki and deserve to be banned again. I doubt somebody who puts the word "RAPE" over and over again on many pages in a wiki has enough maturity to be able to improve it. Bruce98 13:48, 5 September 2006 (CEST)
I think I deserve a second chance with zero tolerance to future vandalism. DickHead 14:29, 5 September 2006 (CEST)
Yes, I suppose so, but your past behaviour doesn't bode well for the future. Bruce98 14:45, 5 September 2006 (CEST)
Thank you DickHead 14:59, 5 September 2006 (CEST)
Look, I just did something good! I think the zero tolerance policy should perhaps be changed to three strikes? DickHead 16:21, 5 September 2006 (CEST)
No, it should still be a zero tolerance policy is best, as no amount of good work will undo what you did in the first place, may I remind you that you spammed 6 pages : OpenTTD:Village Pump, Crossover-Juntion, FAQ, Advanced signal placement, Installation FAQ and Newbies. May I reiterate the words of MeusH - "rape yourself psycho" Bruce98 16:55, 5 September 2006 (CEST)
First of all, your nickname is not nice. Also, you're still posting here despite the fact that you have been banned. I don't like these two things. If you really want to help, submit your ideas to MeusH/Ideas. You will have to re-build your respect and show us you're mature. Then... who knows, maybye you will get the second chance. Maybye not. MeusH 15:00, 16 September 2006 (CEST)

Sorry MeusH

I am sorry about the mess above MeusH, it's your decision on what to do with this user. Bruce98 22:57, 5 September 2006 (CEST)

No need to sorry, you did good MeusH 15:00, 16 September 2006 (CEST)

Good, it was the decision that I wanted too. Bruce98 20:37, 16 September 2006 (CEST)

"Break Down/Breakdown"

It seems breakdown is actually an acceptable word to use. 1. I find it a strange word though. :p Born Acorn 16:39, 4 November 2006 (CET)

Breakdown is actually used in TTD. But thanks for info :)
However, I tried to ask which sentence is correct:
  • it breaks every train and road vehicle nearby down
  • it breaks down every train and road vehicle nearby
What do you think? MeusH 21:49, 4 November 2006 (CET)

It breaks down every nearby train and road vehicle.

'Suggestions go to forum' template

Seeing that people post their feature suggestions and requests in discussion pages of wiki, I've created Template:Suggestions, to encourage them to post these ideas in OpenTTD forums. I'd like your opinion on this idea. Mchl

Where would you like to put it? I haven't seen people posting ideas here, besides the new economy model suggestions. Also it would get a bit boring and messy to add this template to many wiki pages. This announcement can be written at the main page, but do we want it? Writing such an announcement will show us as weak people with a problem. But I don't see a problem. Thank in advance for pointing me pages with suggestions and I'll think about it and talk to important guys here :) MeusH 16:38, 7 January 2007 (CET)
In fact I spotted one so far ;) Talk:Roadmap 0.6, and I think that this (and other Roadmap articles) are the most likely candidates for this message. I agree that 'talk suggestions' are not really a problem (and hopefully never will), but I suppose the template could redirect some people to forums. And sorry for not putting my signature before. Mchl 16:48, 7 January 2007 (CET)
How about Template:Suggestions2 and for example Airships? I made the other one because you use === formatting === that can break tables, pages or other things MeusH 17:30, 7 January 2007 (CET)
I like it. I am not good at visual composision, so I made the template the easiest way possible ;) Mchl 18:49, 7 January 2007 (CET)

Polskie czcionki w tycoonie

Witam Odkąd openttd przeszedł na UTF-8 nie wyświetlają mi się w grze polskie znaki tylko krzaki (system xp sp2 pl). Zajmujesz się poprawą polskich napisów więć może znasz na to sposób.

Pozdrawiam i czekam Seb0

Language issues
Friday, January 19th 2007 18:26 GMT - posted by Darkvater
We are getting a lot of questions about bad fonts, only '?' characters for non-latin languages, etc. We would clearly like to state to READ the readme bundled with the game, section '9. Troubleshooting', or online here .

To state this here shortly: you need to specify a font in openttd.cfg in the small_font/medium_font and large_font sections to get proper characters for Japanese, Russian, etc. Some languages have sprite-versions of the fonts available, you can put that in the [newgrf-static] section of the cfg file.
Completely unrelated, but Release Candidate 4 has a bug that it starts up in russian for the first time. The solution is to either try to find your way through all the '?'-s and change the language, delete russian.lng file or set 'language=english.lng' in the config file.

Fragment mojego openttd.cfg:
small_font = C:\small.bdf
medium_font = Arial
large_font = KabanaBold
small_size = 8
medium_size = 11
large_size = 16
Skontaktuj się ze mną, np gg:1131519 po small.bdf. Niestety niewiele czcionek jest dobrze rysowana w tak małym rozmiarze

Scenario Namespace

Hi MeusH, the scenario database has grown recently and will even more in the next months, hopefully ;-) Because of this Jupix and me have considered to have a own namespace for that for better structure, easier searching and so on, but haven't requested it until now. After Kander has mentioned it again recently on my talk page, I thought it's time to ask for it, the official way ;-) Just let me know what do you think about it. Thanks in advance. Sleepie 13:56, 11 April 2007 (CEST)

Re: Scenario Namespace

So you want something like and acces to database for easy searching and sorting scenarios?

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough, I mean something like this or to be more specific this one. So it would be equal to the namespaces that we have for OpenTTD Manual (Namespace: Manual:) or the Development section (Namespace: Development:). So for an example List of player-made scenarios would become Scenario:List of player-made scenarios. In the end all scenario (database) related pages will be tied in this namespace.
Sleepie 22:48, 11 April 2007 (CEST)
To make a minor correction, the main list and all its subpages wouldn't be in the namespace. Only the scenarios would, for example, Denmark.
With the scenarios in their own namespace, we could avoid the single scenario pages appearing with the "Random page" tool. Jupix 10:55, 12 April 2007 (CEST)
Just out of curiosity... what would it take to request a subdomain + MySQL database for a project such as the scenarios database, MeusH? Kander 19:14, 6 May 2007 (CEST)
Who would write the code?
I can donate hosting and MySQL, but that still leaves the subdomain and some kind of upload script. Jupix 20:43, 6 May 2007 (CEST)
Jupix: That's where I was hoping to be able to make a contribution to this project. And subdomain can be temporarily bypassed during the development of this. I think it would be a good idea to first draft up some specs on what kind of functionality this thing should offer (especially considering who-can-edit-what, versioning of scenarios, etc.). Might be a good idea to discuss that in some other place, instead of abusing MeusH's talk page ^_^ Kander 22:42, 6 May 2007 (CEST)
We could use the Scenarios Team ToDo List for discussion. As I said in my email to you Kander it would be good if you could write some words about what you have already considered and planned and then we're filling the gaps and discuss certain details. Sleepie 22:54, 6 May 2007 (CEST)
Yes, let's continue this discussion at Scenarios Team ToDo List. Jupix 14:50, 7 May 2007 (CEST)
Namespace "scenario" has been added by MiHaMiX. MeusH 20:09, 15 May 2007 (CEST)

Great, many thanks to you and MiHaMix. And thanks for your help with bot so far it's very much appreciated. Maybe we meet eachother later on IRC ;-) Sleepie 20:29, 15 May 2007 (CEST)

OpenTTD Development Page

I think the OpenTTD development page Development:Main Page should be change to the same style as the other main pages on the wiki. I have done an example of what it could look like in my users page here User:L_blue_l/archive L blue l 06:43, 15 April 2007 (CEST)

Re: OpenTTD Development Page

Very nice, indeed :) Does anyone have objections? If yes, vote them here and we may roll-back the change. Thanks L blue l :) MeusH 11:49, 15 April 2007 (CEST)

Main page

Since even its talk page is protected, and you're the one that last edited it, i thought to ask you for a few favours:

  • revert that MP talk page to its latest good revision
  • maybe add back the warning about it being protected too
  • add a link on the Main Page to the latest version (which i think is OpenTTD 0.5.1)

Thank you. -- Jokes Free4Me 18:47, 6 May 2007 (CEST)

I'm sorry but I don't understand you. Why do you call the revision "latest good" one? The talk page seems to be unprotected. And where would you like to put the link (on the Main Page)? Where to should it point? --MeusH 14:31, 12 May 2007 (CEST)
The GP was posted before the talk page was unprotected. Jupix 14:53, 12 May 2007 (CEST)
Okay, sorry. Is there anything to do? What about the link?
I added it myself as the first item on the "Player's Resources" list on the New Main Page test page - i hope nobody minds. As for the Talk page if it's unprotected i'll just solve the issue soon enough. Thanks again. -- Jokes Free4Me 21:10, 12 May 2007 (CEST)

MeusH: regarding the new main page and icons, can you enable .svg uploads please? Jupix 12:07, 14 May 2007 (CEST)

To be done soon. MeusH 20:43, 15 May 2007 (CEST)

Trains Carriages template

Could you please reinstate the first revision of the Trains Carriages template? A lot of pages that use the template have values for the Description, and they're simply not shown. Thank you. -- Jokes Free4Me 20:18, 20 May 2007 (CEST)

Done. Sorry for inconvenience. MeusH 23:23, 22 May 2007 (CEST)
I'd like the "List of Wagons" category inclusion to change to "Carriages" if at all possible to bring it in line with the main article and an improved structure of Category:Trains Mintra 21:18, 15 October 2007 (CEST)
So you want Category:List_of_Wagons to be renamed to Category:Carriages? MeusH 14:22, 4 November 2007 (CET)
Yes. Which is as simple as changing Template:Trains Carriages, I think. Mintra 15:20, 4 November 2007 (CET)

Can you guys install SVG image support? Zojj 01:48, 28 May 2007 (CEST)

Hey I uploaded a photo of a new junction I made and didn't know how to add it to the Train Junction catagory.. I wasn't given the option. I am assuming it is locked. Anyways here is the link for the page I made, move/delete whatever you need to do to make it look right. Thanks.

New Main Page

Hi - amongst others I've been working on the New Main Page test which I think is now ready to be copied over to the "real" main page. User:Born Acorn was going to do this but he's not active at the moment it seems, so I was recommended to ask you. Thanks. Mintra 21:17, 17 November 2007 (CET)

Wow, good job. Looking at "Recent changes" I see you're either cyborg, a man with lots of time, or you type really really fast :) By the way, it's nice you used divs in the new main page.
Guilty of a little of all three at the moment :) Mintra 21:09, 18 November 2007 (CET)

Category:Carriages has a todo note that this template should change it's category form Category:List_of_Wagons to Category:Carriages. Because this article is protected, I'm unable to do that... FooBar 22:25, 28 February 2008 (CET) I would allso like to do that. TThe talk page of te article says too leave a message here to have the page edited.

Done. Is there anything more to do? MeusH 18:15, 2 April 2008 (CEST)
