Electric locomotives
Electric locomotive - An electric locomotive is a type of locomotive which is powered by electricity, taking advantage of the high efficiency of electric motors. Most electric locomotives get their power from overhead lines (A.K.A. catenary), some less common sources of power include electric 3rd rail or an onboard energy source, such as an accumulator. The set includes electric locomotives of the following types:
Direct current (DC)
Electric locomotives which run on direct current are cheaper than their AC counterparts, however, the DC electrified railway track is more expensive. It means that DC railway is more suitable for busy lines with a lot of trains running, where the advantage of cheaper locomotives overweighs the higher building cost of the track.

Alternating current (AC)
Locomotives which run on alternating current are more expensive than DC locomotives and their maintenance costs are also higher. However, the AC electrified track is cheaper to build. This means that AC railway is more suitable for long lines with fewer trains, where the higher cost of locomotives doesn't matter that much, but cheaper track can save the player a lot of money.

Double-system
Double-system locomotives can run on both AC and DC electrified railway. They don't have any advantages over single-system locomotives but they allow the player to set up a new line using their already built rail network with both types of electrification without having to rebuild the whole track with AC or DC railway only.
