Gameplay
The Centennial is the most powerful Diesel Engine included with the Baseset for the Sub-Artic and Sub-Tropical Climates, and also the strongest Diesel Engine included with the Baseset in general. Its remarkable strength and decent speed make it ideal for pulling heavy loads over great distances and to climb long inclines without hindering its speed or acceleration.
It can pull up to 42 tile long, fully loaded freight trains without any hinderance to its speed and acceleration, and even 64 tile long, fully loaded freight trains (the maximum allowed by the Advanced Settings) while not being slowed down too much.
Its maximum speed of 112 kmh allows this engine to share lines with the CS 2400 engine for Mixed Traffic Lines, or to combine them in a single train to supplement its power without spending on two Centennials, nor having to worry with slowing one of the engines down

- The Centennial is directly based on the Union Pacific’s DDA40X Diesel Engine.
- The in-game Power value of the Centennial is directly based on the estimated horsepower of its real life counterpart.
- Although all the trains included in the Baseset are modified versions of their real life counterparts, the Centennial got the most drastic reduction of weight and length of all the Baseset roster.
- The Centennial is the only Baseset Engine to directly use its real life inspiration's nickname without adding prefixes, wordplay or vague hints. Instead, it takes the “Centennial” epithet of the DDA40X as its own name.
- The epithet “Centennial” comes from the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the First transcontinental railroad line of the United States, in which the DDA40X’s first unit, the UP 6900, was delivered just in time for the Golden Spike Centennial Ceremony.
- Many units of the Real-Life counterpart of the Centennial have been preserved in multiple museums across the American Continent.
